Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), offers several routes to the summit, each with unique characteristics. The Marangu Route, also called the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the only one with hut accommodations and is considered the easiest, though its quick ascent leads to lower success rates. The Machame Route, or “Whiskey Route,” is more challenging but scenic, featuring varied landscapes and better acclimatization. The Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful, starting from the western side with fewer crowds and offering excellent acclimatization. The Shira Route, similar to Lemosho, begins higher at Shira Plateau, making it more suitable for experienced trekkers. The Rongai Route, coming from the north, is drier and less crowded, offering a more remote experience. The Northern Circuit is the longest but boasts the highest success rate due to its slow acclimatization. Lastly, the Umbwe Route is the steepest and most demanding, recommended only for highly experienced climbers.
